Welcoming 2024: The Inauguration of the JOURNAL OF AFAN OROMO
As we embark on the journey of a new year, we extend a warm welcome to the launch of the JOURNAL OF AFAN OROMO. This online publication is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of Afan Oromo, the language of the vibrant Oromo people. Over the past three decades, the written Oromo language, utilizing the Qubee Latin Alphabet, has witnessed significant advancements across various domains, including education, popular culture, and literature.
Our Mission and Vision:
At the JOURNAL OF AFAN OROMO, our mission is to serve as a repository of knowledge and a platform for scholarly discourse, acting as a bridge between the rich history of Afan Oromo and its promising future. Through this journal, we aspire to catalog and consolidate diverse scholarly publications, providing a comprehensive resource for researchers, educators, and language enthusiasts. Detailed information about our objectives is available in the “About Us” section.
Exploring Key Areas:
The Oromo language holds multiple dimensions, encompassing linguistic, political, and technological facets. Scholars have extensively articulated its role not only as a linguistic entity but also as a language associated with an oppressed nation. Since the adoption of the Qubee alphabetization in 1991, the technological angle has emerged as a fascinating area of development for Afan Oromo. To facilitate systematic exploration of these key areas, our online publication is categorized as follows:
- Article: Targeted scholarly publications, serving as the primary output of the JOURNAL OF AFAN OROMO.
- Editorial: Expressing the opinions of the editorial board on specific topics or issues. What you reading now is an Editorial.
- News: Documenting noteworthy items related to Afan Oromo.
- Politics: Exploring the political dimensions of Afan Oromo, exemplified by Dr Xilahun Gamta’s published article on this website.
- Technology: Delving into the technological aspects of Afan Oromo, exemplified by Dr Demessie G Yahii’s published article on this website.
- Tidbits: Providing bite-sized bits of knowledge, such as “word of the day” or historical aspects of a word, accessible through a dedicated button on our home page. We renamed this category with the closest Oromo word: Hanccilloo.
A Multilingual Approach:
We plan to publish an Afan Oromo version of JAO alongside this English publication. A dedicated team is currently being assembled for this task, and progress updates will be shared with our readers.
Your Support Matters:
In our pursuit of excellence, we seek your support to make JOURNAL OF AFAN OROMO a success. Your donations, no matter how small, will contribute to keeping our publication ad-free and covering the expenses necessary to remain online. Support us by donating through the Donate link shown in the menu above which takes you a PayPal user interface page. For alternative donation methods, please feel free to contact us.
In Closing:
